4 Suggested Ways To Thin Craft Smart Acrylic Paint

As per advice from professionals around the world, I have come up with four different possible ways to thin Craft Smart acrylic paint. I do not know which will suit you most, but I will discuss them based on their performance from best to good.

#1 Thinning With Mediums

  • According to me, acrylic medium serves the best as the acrylic paint thinner for both beginners and professionals.
  •  You can add less than 50% of medium to allow the paint thin without alteration of composition.
  • Do not add excess medium as it may alter the color of the paint and may not stick to the surface.

#2 Thinning With Water

  • The cheapest and most convenient way to thin acrylic is to add 30 or less percentage of water to your paint.
  • If more water is added, it will affect the binder of acrylic and flow like water wash.

#3 Thinning With Alcohol

  • You can thin Craft Smart Acrylic Paint with rubbing alcohol. I recommend the amount of alcohol you can use to dilute paint is up to 20%.
  • The use of alcohol will increase drying and can result in uneven application.
  • Thinning acrylic paint with alcohol is not a highly recommended thinning method.

#4 Thinning With Acetone

  • I know acetone is not a convenient thinning medium for beginners but you can use it if you are confident enough.
  • The ratio is a 4:1 ratio of paint to acetone.
  • A little excess acetone can damage your acrylic within a minute.

So far, I told you what you can possibly use for thinning acrylic paint. But I will also warn you about mineral spirits and white spirits.

They are 100% not recommended for acrylic paint as they can easily damage the bond your paint has.
